Outside of our designs, most of our clients choose to engrave something that is sentimental to them. Such as names, initials and monograms, dates, special messages, funny quotes, inside jokes, or uploaded designs. The hunting knife is probably one of the tools that have been around the longest. It is believed that the knife is about as old as the hammer. It all began with blades made of stone, shell, and bone.
We sell our own custom made knives manufactured at our shop, Balsam Ridge Workshop LLC, in Wellsboro, Pa. We make all our knives by the stock removal method using 154 CPM Stainless and Damascus steel from Alabama Damascus. Most of our knives include a wet-formed, sewn leather sheath. We make a wide variety of sizes, styles and handle materials.

Their Red Class, meant to be a budget line, was manufactured in China , and at least some of what they made for HK and the NRA were imported. But they’ve cut all those lines out of their catalogs and became an exclusively Made-in-the-USA company. The only part that comes from overseas is the steel. For now they only use Elmax steel, which is a very high end powder steel made by Uddeholm in Sweden. On the whole, though, all American-made A.G. Russell knives are the A.G.

All of my custom knives are hand forged and made exclusively by me. My wife Cindy started helping me in the shop and has joined the ranks of a knife maker and enthusiast. Cindy talents has brought a new look to our knives which might be anything from new materials used on knife scales to a new knife shape. It is very solidly built and has a solid blade lock when open. It also includes a nicely made, well fitted leather holder. That this is a blem, which I could not readily spot, and the reduced price because of that makes it even more of a great purchase.

When sharpening your knife, try to sharpen only the cutting edge so as not to damage the pattern etched on the blade. You can find your knife’s blade angle noted in the packaging insert. We usually sharpen our knives to 18º on each side, although this varies with blade thickness. If possible, store your knife on a magnetic strip or in a special knife block. If you store your knife in a drawer, wrap the blade in a cloth or keep it in a case to avoid any blade damage.
